The Story of Kira Bester
Hi, I’m Kira Bester, a 23-year-old ocean racing surfski paddler from Cape Town, South Africa. My journey on the water has been one of grit, determination, and an unrelenting passion for excellence. Over the years, I’ve proudly represented South Africa at nine international events, the most recent being the 2024 ICF Ocean Racing World Championships in Madeira. It was a dream come true to not only win the U23 title but also claim the prestigious Open Ladies World Championship title, cementing my position as one of the world’s leading paddlers.
Paddling has always been more than a sport to me—it’s a way of life. Every wave I conquer and every race I tackle fuels my passion to push my limits and inspire others to do the same. My enthusiastic personality assist me to navigate this exciting journey, but it’s my drive and unwavering work ethic that have helped me turn challenges into opportunities.
Alongside my paddling achievements, I’ve recently completed my studies at the University of Cape Town, which has prepared me to approach life with a strong foundation and a commitment to excellence both on and off the water. Now, with my focus entirely on my sporting career, I’m determined to continue representing my country and achieving new milestones on the international stage.
